Why Choose Dr Lucy?

As a Clinical Psychologist, I offer comprehensive assessments that go beyond merely determining a diagnosis. My approach focuses on understanding your a person's strengths, challenges, and specific support needs. This holistic assessment provides valuable insights that can inform tailored interventions across home, educational or workplace settings. I do not make diagnostic decisions based on the results of single assessments; I feel it is important to build a relationship
with you, or your child and family, to fully understand needs. As a clinical psychologist, I have extensive training and experience in ADHD and Autism, as well as in co-occurring differences and difficulties, including intellectual disabilities, mental health, trauma, attachment difficulties, foetal alcohol spectrum disorder and specific learning difficulties (e.g dyslexia).

Regardless of the outcome of your, or your child’s assessment, you will receive tailored recommendations for you or your child, your family and for work or education, to help create supportive environments that foster wellbeing. It is important to me that my assessment is neuroaffirmative, and therefore, I focus on the strengths you, or your child, presents with, as well as acknowledging the areas of need and support.

What does an Autism Assessment involve?

  1. Developmental History
A detailed interview with a parent, or somebody who knew you well when younger. For many people I assess this is not possible for lots of reasons; in this case we can rely on your own self report, access to previous assessments/documents, or speaking with a friend or relative. Part of the diagnostic criteria means we do need supportive information from your early years.

  2. Direct Clinical Observation
The ADOS assessment is a standardised assessment tool designed to assess for common traits of autism within a clinical setting. This appointment also incorporates direct clinical observation to assess core symptoms and their impact on functioning.

  3. Psychometric Questionnaires
Standardised assessment tools are completed by you, and somebody who knows you well.

  4. School Information/Observation (For children)
Collaboration with the school to gather relevant information and, where required, conduct observations in the educational setting. If your child is not currently in education, we can discuss together who could provide further information.

  5. Document Review
For some people, where there has been previous involvement with other professionals, like a psychiatrist, psychologist, occupational therapist or speech and language therapist, it may aid the assessment to review previous reports which outline assessments, diagnoses and recommendations. You will be asked to provide these where necessary.

  6. Feedback Appointment
A session to discuss assessment findings, provide insights, and outline recommendations.

  7. Written Report

A comprehensive document detailing the assessment results and suggested next steps.
